Senkoji Temple located inside Senkoji Park is a Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect. According to lore, the temple was built by the famous Buddhist priest Kobo Daishi. The vermillion lacquered main hall is a symbol of Onomichi. There is also an enormous rock called "Tama no Iwa". According to legend, there used to be a gigantic glittering gem on top of the rock that served as a landmark for incoming ships.

Access :
1. From Hiroshima Station, take the JR Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen (bullet train) to Fukuyama Station (23 minutes). Then, take the JR Sanyo Line from Fukuyama Station to Onomichi Station (19 minutes). Senkoji Park is a short walk from Onomichi Station (15 minutes). Total travel time: approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes.
2. From Hiroshima Airport, take the airport limousine bus to Mihara Station (37 minutes). Then, take the JR Sanyo Line from Mihara Station to Onomichi Station (16 minutes). Senkoji Park is a short walk from Onomichi Station (15 minutes). Total travel time: approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
