Well-preserved historical towns where you might encounter “original scenes of Japan”, almost like a step back in time.

The region on the coast of the Seto inland sea is Setouchi area and the western region on the Sea of Japan side is called the San'in area.

You can enjoy marvelous views at San’inkaigan National Park, which has beautiful landscapes formed by the violent waves of the Sea of Japan; Setonaikai National Park with its innumerable islands dotting the calm Seto Inland Sea. Moreover, wherever you go you will be welcomed with delicious local food from both mountain and sea, well-known all over Japan.

San’in »

Route Romantique San’in stretches from Tottori Prefecture and Shimane Prefecture to Hagi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture. This region, which faces the Sea of Japan with the Chugoku Mountains in the background, possesses abundant nature and the oldest history in Japan. Culture and life infused with romantic myths still continue to survive to this day in this region. You will find an authentic Japan here that has been in existence since ancient times.

Hiroshima

Islands tells an endless history connected by the maritime Silk Road. like as Cycling in Shimanami-Kaido, famous activities pursued on island after island, made possible by modern technology. The warm climate of the inland sea. The abundant natural blessings that come from the weather of the plains, plateaus, basins and mountains. Beautiful scenery. Agricultural and marine foods, fresh oyster. The colors of seasonal flowers, the blue of islands and sea, colorful autumn leaves and the harvest, and being in the unbroken white of snow in the winter. The moon and stars reflected in the peaceful bay of islands in silent night.

Pure spring water, and the magnificent sound of a waterfall, fine water is perfect for fine rice and sake. Hiroshima, a land dedicated to peace. The culture, folk entertainment Kagura. Handicrafts of the people of Hiroshima. As evidenced by the number of people who visit, in Hiroshima, you can have any kind of trip you like.

Hiroshima is easily accessible by air via Hiroshima Airport. One can also access the place by taking a 50-minute limousine bus to Hiroshima Train Station, or via the Shinkansen (bullet train) from other cities.

Okayama

Okayama is located in the heart of Western Japan and offers smooth access to many major tourist destinations. It boasts many famous sightseeing spots, including one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, Okayama Korakuen Garden, which was also awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan, Okayama Castle, Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, and three hot springs of Mimasaka (Yunogo Onsen, Yubara Onsen and Okutsu Onsen).

Throughout the year, Okayama is blessed with minimal rain and a mild climate, earning it the nickname the “Land of Sunshine.” Come and taste Okayama’s seasonal fruits, from white peaches to Muscat and Pione grapes!

Okayama is easily accessible from Osaka (37-min by Shinkansen) and Hiroshima(34-min by Shinkansen)

Yamaguchi

Yamaguchi Prefecture is surrounded by the ocean on three sides. We are rich with seafood like puffer fish, and blessed with fresh foods and mouthwatering local sake.

There are breathtaking views such as, Tsunoshima Bridge, Akiyoshido cave, Kintaikyo Bridge, and Motonosumi Shrine. Yuda Onsen, said to hydrate the skin and relax the soul is the best place for your hot spring experience.

Visit Yamaguchi via the Shinkansen, it only takes 15 minutes from Hiroshima to the Shin-Iwakuni station and 20 minutes from Hakata to Shin-Shimonoseki.

Ehime

Ehime is a prefecture in Shikoku, an island located southwest of Japan’s main island of Honshu. It faces the Seto Inland Sea and enjoys mild to warm weather. It’s easily accessible from popular cities like Hiroshima and Beppu, and is not far from Kyoto or Osaka. One of the most popular sights in Ehime, the “Dogo Onsen” in the castle town of Matsuyama, is the oldest hot spring in Japan with a history stretching back 3,000 years. Here you can stroll around the hot spring town in a Yukata robe, ride on a rickshaw, and take photos full of classical Japanese charm!

It’s easily accessible from popular cities like Hiroshima and Beppu, and is not far from Kyoto or Osaka.

Kagawa

Kagawa Prefecture is situated in the north of Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's four main islands. Kagawa has Shikoku’s largest city, Takamatsu, and many small islands on the Seto Inland Sea. Naoshima and its surrounding islands are packed with internationally renowned modern art installations and museums, while Shodoshima is famous for olive production and sandy beaches. Kagawa Prefecture is perhaps best known for udon, with many of Japan's best noodle shops located in the prefecture.

Kagawa is easy to access. The prefectural capital, Takamatsu City, is 1 hour and 45 minutes by train from Osaka, and 1 hour and 30 minutes by train from Hiroshima, where several World Heritage sites lie.

Shimane

Shimane Prefecture is situated in the northern region of Western Japan, facing the Sea of Japan. It stretches widely from east to west, with the Oki islands located north of its shores. The land is blessed with riches both from the Sea of Japan and from the Chugoku mountain range. Shimane's history is so vast and deep that the earliest time it first appeared was in the time of the Japanese mythology. There are various legends and folklores found everywhere in Shimane, and the culture and traditions related to those legends are still alive in people's daily life. Shimane is also famous as the place where myriads of Japanese gods gather to hold annual meetings. Thus, Shimane is known as "The land of the gods" or "The land of myths".

Visit Shimane from Hiroshima and Okayama by train and express bus.
